Brazil`s highest court ordered an immediate suspension of X (formerly Twitter) within the country due to owner Elon Musk`s refusal to appoint a legal representative in Brazil. The court, led by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, cited concerns about the spread of fake news and hate speech on the platform, particularly during the recent elections. Moraes accused X of fostering "an environment of total impunity and lawlessness" and enabling the spread of harmful content by "extremist groups and digital militias." Musk criticized the ruling, calling Moraes an "unelected pseudo-judge" and accusing the Brazilian government of suppressing free speech. X CEO Linda Yaccarino expressed disappointment, calling the situation "heartbreaking" and stating that X will remain shut down in Brazil until the government upholds the constitution. While X plans to publicly release the court filings for transparency, the platform remained accessible as the telecommunications regulator has 24 hours to implement the ban.
