Chinese Hackers Exploit Startup Bug to Breach US, Indian Internet Companies

Security researchers have discovered that a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group, known as Volt Typhoon, is exploiting a vulnerability in a product made by California-based company Versa Networks. This exploit has allowed the group to breach the systems of four US internet companies, as well as one in India. Versa Networks has since addressed the vulnerability with a patch, but concerns remain about the vulnerability of critical US infrastructure to such attacks. The Chinese government denies any involvement, claiming that Volt Typhoon is a criminal group and accusing the US of fabricating the accusations. Versa Networks maintains that the affected customer had not followed their security guidelines, which would have prevented the breach.
