Boeing, Lockheed in Talks to Sell Rocket Venture ULA to Sierra Space

Boeing and Lockheed Martin are discussing the sale of their joint venture, United Launch Alliance (ULA), to Sierra Space. The deal, potentially valued between $2 billion and $3 billion, would see the major U.S. government launch provider changing hands from two large defense contractors to a smaller private firm. While this follows years of speculation and previous unsuccessful sale attempts, negotiations may not result in a deal. Several other companies, including Blue Origin and Rocket Lab, have expressed interest in ULA in the past. For Sierra Space, acquiring ULA would be a significant step, potentially providing them with their own launch capabilities for their spaceplane and station projects. For Boeing, the sale aligns with their new CEO`s focus on core businesses. ULA, formed in 2006, has been challenged by SpaceX`s rise and is transitioning to its new Vulcan rocket.
