OpenAI Co-Founders Depart in Major Leadership Shakeup

Two co-founders of OpenAI, Greg Brockman and John Schulman, are leaving the company. Brockman, the president, is taking a leave of absence until the end of the year, while Schulman, a research scientist, is joining competitor Anthropic. These departures follow other recent changes in OpenAI`s leadership, including the exit of a vice president and several members of the safety team, although the company has also made significant new hires. These changes mark a period of upheaval for OpenAI, leaving only two members of the original founding team remaining. While Brockman states his leave is for personal reasons, Schulman emphasized his move is not due to concerns about OpenAI`s commitment to AI safety research. Both were instrumental figures at OpenAI, with Brockman being a close ally of CEO Sam Altman and Schulman widely recognized for his work on ChatGPT.
