FTC and DOJ Sue TikTok Over Childrens Privacy Violations

The FTC and Justice Department are taking legal action against TikTok and its parent company, ByteDance, for allegedly violating children`s privacy laws. The lawsuit claims that despite knowing about COPPA requirements and a previous settlement, TikTok continued to collect data from children under 13 without parental consent. The FTC alleges that TikTok`s review process for identifying underage users was inadequate and that the platform continued to use children`s data for advertising and other purposes. Additionally, the FTC criticizes TikTok`s Kids Mode for collecting excessive data and the platform`s handling of parental deletion requests. The FTC aims to protect children`s online privacy and hold companies accountable for violations.
